I think it’s pretty sad that we’re all wrapped up in Dan Gryder doing something stupid, when the real atrocity here is that this unpainted, poorly-lit (if lit at all) and self-obscuring obstacle was able to be erected directly under the final approach to Heyburn, with a certified instrument approach procedure. It’s egregious actually- and a young pilot is dead as a result. Say what you want about Gryder, he’s a polarizing figure that people generally love or hate, and I don’t always agree with his message or his methods. His theatrics were dumb and irresponsible, but at the end of the day, his actions, or lack thereof, are not the reason that Brittney lost her life. We are doing Brittney, her family, and the aviation community a massive disservice by going on a wild goose chase over Dan Gryder taking evidence from the crash site. He should not have taken the light- and should get a slap on the wrist/reprimand for doing so, but that’s the end of the story. This accident is unique from most in the sense that there is a fairly clear pattern of willful negligence leading up to it by the airport operator (the city), the owner of the stack, and the FAA. I normally side with the NTSB’s philosophy of not assigning blame and focusing on the lessons that can be carried forward. But this is a case where the responsible individuals within each of the aforementioned organizations need to be on trial for manslaughter. Again, we can chastise Gryder all we want for taking the light. While it was stupid, it did not cause this accident. Let’s not stick our heads in the sand and pretend that that light would have actually prevented the collision with the tower from happening. If you look at the time scales involved in the report, the weather and prevailing visibility, they probably could have put a WWII aircraft searchlight on that tower and it still would not have prevented this accident. I am disappointed that the NTSB report shys away from stating whether or not. the tower was clearly visible because Gryder had taken the light. Again, he shouldn’t have because it is evidence. But if you read the accident sequence in the report it becomes pretty obvious that this light would not have prevented the collision. We can play dumb all day long and pretend that somehow the entire outcome of this accident sequence hinges on this light and its operation- but it doesn’t. This is akin to the NTSB stating that they are unable to determine the probable cause of the accident because the pilot is dead, or because IMC prevailed at the time of the accident. No matter what you think of the guy, Gryder is a *red herring* in this accident. This is not a defence of Gryder’s actions, he is theatrics are a sideshow and again the entities that are truly responsible for this accident have not yet had to answer for their negligence.

Please come out with a Droid version. Apple might be dominant but there are a lot of us Android users as well.

The NTSB speculates every aviation crash. It may say Factual, and that might be the outcome of their findings, but unless you are there at the moment of demise, it is just that pure speculation.

Gyro have changed so much .Not really. Let's see a engine mounted to a frame . check, number two a free rotating rotor blade overhead mounted at the proper angle of attack . check, and a rudder and maybe a vertical fin. check. Oh you can cancel the engine if you want to tow it by submarine like the Germans did . Actually they are almost foolproof until a Fool is at the controls.

Christy, as I was watching I realised as you said, you were used to being in your comfort zone "right seat". In your Captain training, do you practice "chair flying" to help overcome this mindset?

The protocol for re-entering the United States has recently changed. You file your notice of arrival via EApis and then you email them at their particular airport CBT office. They respond with a code which shows that they approved and given you landing rights. I suppose you could still call, but the email process is now preferred.
